Cooking is an ideal activity to introduce in schools as an extra curriculum as it lays down some very important foundations for future development and growth.
It can help young children learn and practice some basic mathematic concepts and build language skills.
Children explore new tastes, smells and textures in a fun and creative way. Cooking help get them to open up to new tastes.
Feeding children can be one of the most frustrating aspects of child rearing and coming up with new ways to encourage children to try new foods is not always easy to do. We have put together an agenda of tried and tested healthy recipes to encourage children from the age of 3 – 6 years to get excited about nutritional food and the preparation process thus encourage good eating habits.
Classes include the discussion about the recipe, ingredients, utensils, food preparation/baking, safety and cleanliness of the kitchen. Children will also be introduced to name ingredients and utensils in English, Afrikaans and South Sotho.
We introduce fun and creative recipes each week in our 30 to 45 minute classes. For example;
All the ingredients and utensils to make their new creation each week are supplied as well as the take home box to personalize. We also provide markers, glue sticks and stickers to decorate & personalize their own take home box.
Each term feedback will be given to the children regarding the recipes covered that term.
At the end of each term we will do a “fun lesson”. We will do some food experiments for example looking at food changing colour, for example an apple becomes brown, etc.
